What Can Family Constellations Help With? Astrology, Relationships and Rapid Core Healing

People often come to this work because they have reached an interesting point in their healing.

They understand the problem.

They may know exactly where it came from. They have read the books, been to therapy, reflected on their childhood, studied their attachment style and perhaps even recognised the same pattern in their astrology.

And yet the pattern continues.

They still choose emotionally unavailable partners. They still become responsible for everyone around them. They still feel guilty about succeeding. They still become a child around their parents or find themselves recreating a relationship dynamic they swore they would never repeat.

This is where my work with Family Constellations, Couples Constellations, Rapid Core Healing and Asterian Astrology comes together.

These are not four versions of the same thing. Each gives me a different way of understanding what is happening.

Family Constellations looks primarily at the wider family and ancestral system. It is particularly useful when difficulties relate to parents, family roles, intergenerational patterns, belonging, loss, exclusions or unconscious loyalties.

Couples Constellations focuses on what is happening between two partners. I look at the dynamics developing within the relationship, but also at what each person has brought into it from their own family and relationship history.

Rapid Core Healing works more directly with personal trauma and emotional wounds. I use it for childhood experiences, attachment wounds, inner child work, somatic responses, persistent triggers and painful experiences that remain emotionally active in the present.

And Asterian Astrology gives me another perspective entirely. It can help identify the larger patterns, temperaments, relationship themes and areas of activation that a person carries through life.

Together, they allow me to look at a problem from several levels:

What belongs to the individual?

What belongs to their family system?

What is happening between the couple?

And what larger pattern does their astrology describe?

My Work With Asterian Astrology

I practise Asterian Astrology, an ancient sidereal astrological system that I have studied through direct mentorship.

It is quite different from the modern Western astrology most people first encounter.

Modern Western astrology generally uses the tropical zodiac, which is anchored to the seasons. Asterian Astrology is sidereal, meaning that it is aligned with the astronomical positions of the stars.

This distinction was one of the things that originally attracted me to it.

If I am going to practise astrology, literally a study concerned with the stars, I personally want the actual stellar sky to remain central to the system.

Asterian Astrology also works with 27 birth stars, rather than relying primarily on the familiar twelve-sign model. This gives me a much more nuanced way of looking at temperament, character, instinctive responses, strengths, challenges and relationship patterns.

I find this far more interesting than reducing someone to a Sun sign.

"You are a Scorpio, therefore you are intense" might be entertaining over dinner, but it is not particularly useful when a couple sitting in front of me loves each other deeply and yet repeatedly wounds one another in exactly the same place.

I am interested in astrology when it helps illuminate the architecture underneath someone's experience.

What happens for them around intimacy?

How do they respond to closeness and separation?

Where does responsibility sit?

What kind of partner affects them most strongly?

What themes repeatedly appear around family, belonging, work, love, loss or identity?

And when I am working with couples, what happens when the architecture of one person's chart meets the architecture of the other's?

Asterian Astrology and Couples Constellations

This is one of the areas where my work becomes particularly distinctive.

When working with couples, I can bring their astrology into the Couples Constellations process.

I am not interested simply in giving a couple a compatibility score or telling them whether they are astrologically "good" or "bad" for each other.

Relationships are considerably more sophisticated than that.

Instead, I look at what each person naturally brings into relationship and how their charts interact.

Why is the attraction so strong?

Where is there natural ease?

Where do they strongly activate one another?

Where might one person's behaviour touch something particularly sensitive in the other?

What does each person require from relationship?

Where do responsibility, intimacy, independence, communication, desire or emotional security become important?

Astrology can sometimes show me where the pressure point lies.

Couples Constellations allows us to investigate what is actually happening there.

Imagine one partner continually seeks reassurance while the other withdraws whenever emotions become intense.

At the surface level, the argument sounds like this:

"You never talk to me."

and

"You never give me any space."

Astrology may show that themes around emotional security, closeness and autonomy are strongly activated between these two people.

Couples Constellations can take us further.

Perhaps one partner had a parent who repeatedly disappeared or became emotionally unavailable, and distance now registers internally as abandonment.

Perhaps the other grew up with an intrusive or emotionally dependent parent and learned that closeness meant losing freedom.

Suddenly, neither partner is simply "needy" or "avoidant".

Two histories are meeting.

The astrology helps identify the sensitivity.

The constellation helps us understand the relational story underneath it.

Relationship Patterns That Keep Repeating

One of the most common reasons people come to me is that their romantic relationships seem to follow the same story.

This work may be helpful if you:

  • repeatedly attract emotionally unavailable, avoidant or unsuitable partners

  • experience relationships ending in the same way again and again

  • struggle to find or sustain a long-term relationship

  • fear abandonment or commitment

  • feel unable to leave an unhealthy relationship

  • repeatedly become the rescuer, therapist or caretaker

  • choose partners who strongly resemble a difficult parent emotionally

  • remain intensely attached to an ex or unavailable person

  • experience repeated infidelity, betrayal or love triangles

  • find yourself recreating the same relationship despite consciously wanting something different

Sometimes the adult relationship becomes an attempt to resolve an earlier relationship.

Someone who spent childhood trying to earn an emotionally distant father's attention may consciously desire an available partner, yet feel most powerfully attracted to people from whom love must again be earned.

Here, I might use Family Constellations to examine the parental relationship.

If there is a significant personal attachment wound, I may use Rapid Core Healing.

If the person is currently in a partnership and both people want to understand the dynamic, Couples Constellations may be the most useful doorway.

Astrology adds another layer by helping me recognise the person's fundamental relationship patterns and the contacts being activated between two charts.

Problems Within an Existing Couple

Couples often know their arguments by heart.

They understand the subject of the conflict. What they cannot understand is why they cannot stop repeating it.

Couples Constellations can be particularly useful for:

  • the same argument happening repeatedly

  • one partner feeling chronically unseen, unheard or unimportant

  • pursuer and withdrawer dynamics

  • loss of intimacy or affection

  • sexual or emotional disconnection

  • resentment that has accumulated over time

  • difficulties after betrayal or infidelity

  • conflict around money

  • conflict around children or parenting

  • difficulties with in-laws

  • poor boundaries with parents

  • one partner becoming parental towards the other

  • one person carrying considerably more responsibility

  • repeated separation and reconciliation

  • difficulty making an important decision together

  • uncertainty about whether to stay together

  • relationships changing dramatically after having children

Couples Constellations asks not only, "What are you arguing about?"

It also asks, "Who are each of you becoming when this argument begins?"

Is one person suddenly the frightened child?

Is the other behaving like a critical parent?

Is someone unconsciously defending their mother?

Has a previous partner never been emotionally left behind?

Does one person feel forced to choose between their family of origin and their partner?

Sometimes what appears to be a communication problem is actually a collision between two family systems.

Difficult Relationships With Parents

Our early relationships profoundly influence the way we experience ourselves and others.

Family Constellations can be particularly helpful for:

  • difficult relationships with the mother or father

  • estrangement from parents

  • remaining deeply affected by parental criticism or rejection

  • feeling responsible for a parent's happiness or wellbeing

  • difficulty setting boundaries

  • feeling psychologically unable to separate from the family

  • becoming childlike whenever you are around a parent

  • chronic anger or resentment towards a parent

  • spending adult life trying to prove yourself to your parents

  • feeling unable to accept a parent as they are

  • feeling that your life still revolves around parental approval

A person can be highly competent, successful and independent, yet a five-minute conversation with their mother leaves them feeling twelve years old.

External independence and emotional separation are not necessarily the same thing.

Astrology can often make these parental themes extremely visible.

The constellation gives us somewhere to take that information.

Parentification and Carrying Too Much

Some children become psychologically responsible for adults far too early.

They may care for a depressed mother, manage an unpredictable father, protect siblings, mediate between parents or learn that keeping everyone else stable is necessary for their own safety.

These children often grow into extremely capable adults.

They are the person everyone calls.

They anticipate what everyone else needs.

They become indispensable.

And they may find it extraordinarily difficult to receive.

This work can be useful when someone:

  • became the emotional caretaker of the family

  • had to grow up too quickly

  • felt responsible for younger siblings

  • mediated between fighting parents

  • still feels responsible for their mother's or father's wellbeing

  • becomes the caretaker in romantic relationships

  • takes excessive responsibility for colleagues, clients or friends

  • believes everything will collapse if they stop managing it

  • struggles to ask for or receive support

Family Constellations can help address the family structure underneath this.

Rapid Core Healing can work with the fear, loneliness or emotional neglect experienced by the child who had to become an adult too soon.

Couples Constellations can be helpful when this dynamic has been recreated between partners.

The Black Sheep, Outsider and Questions of Belonging

Some people grow up feeling fundamentally different from their family.

They may have different values, ambitions, spirituality, relationships, politics, lifestyles or ideas about how life should be lived.

They may have been scapegoated or rejected.

Or nobody may have overtly excluded them, yet they still experience a profound sense of not belonging.

Family Constellations can be useful for:

  • feeling like the outsider or black sheep

  • feeling disconnected from your family or culture

  • being caught between two cultures

  • feeling ashamed of your family background

  • difficulty accepting part of your ancestry

  • guilt about living differently from your family

  • guilt about being happier or more successful

  • feeling disloyal for leaving a family religion or worldview

  • difficulty creating your own life without feeling you have abandoned your family

One of the important questions here is:

Can I belong without having to be the same?

Astrology can sometimes describe somebody whose path naturally takes them far beyond the psychological or cultural world into which they were born.

Constellations can help work with the emotional consequences of taking that path.

Repeating Family Patterns

This is one of the clearest applications of Family Constellations.

People often become interested in this work when they realise that the difficulty they are experiencing did not begin with them.

Examples include:

  • repeated divorce across generations

  • repeated abandonment

  • addiction occurring through several generations

  • repeated abusive relationships

  • emotionally unavailable partners appearing generation after generation

  • women repeatedly carrying the entire family

  • emotionally absent fathers

  • children becoming estranged from parents in successive generations

  • recurring financial collapse or bankruptcy

  • repeated pregnancy loss

  • migration or displacement

  • repeated early deaths or traumatic losses

  • multiple family members struggling to sustain long-term partnerships

  • recurring family conflict or division

Sometimes the sentence that brings somebody to this work is simply:

"I know this is a family pattern, but I don't know how to stop repeating it."

Astrology can make these intergenerational themes particularly fascinating.

Family members frequently have striking contacts between their charts. Similar themes, planetary relationships or configurations may repeat across generations.

Astrology can describe that pattern symbolically.

Family Constellations explores how it is actually being lived.

Childhood Experiences That Still Affect Adult Life

Not every pattern is primarily ancestral.

Sometimes something happened directly to the person, and that experience still shapes their nervous system, relationships and emotional responses.

Rapid Core Healing is especially relevant for:

  • childhood trauma

  • emotional neglect

  • growing up with a controlling or unpredictable parent

  • abandonment

  • rejection

  • attachment wounds

  • bullying

  • abuse

  • shame

  • feeling unwanted

  • being less valued than a sibling

  • losing a parent during childhood

  • parental divorce having a lasting effect

  • frightening or traumatic experiences

  • persistent emotional triggers

  • inner child wounds

  • somatic reactions that continue after the original danger has passed

For example, Family Constellations might reveal a wider pattern of abandonment within the family.

Astrology might show that themes of separation and attachment are particularly significant in the person's life.

But if that person still carries the direct emotional experience of being six years old and waiting for a parent who did not return, there is also an individual wound.

That is where Rapid Core Healing becomes particularly valuable.

Losses, Secrets and Exclusions

Families are shaped not only by the people who are present, but also by the people and events that have disappeared from the family story.

Family Constellations may be particularly useful where there has been:

  • miscarriage

  • stillbirth

  • abortion

  • the death of a child

  • early death of a parent or sibling

  • suicide

  • adoption

  • abandonment

  • a missing or absent parent

  • previous marriages or important previous partners

  • children who were separated from the family

  • family members who were disowned

  • relatives excluded because of behaviour, addiction, imprisonment or mental illness

  • important relationships or events that became family secrets

This does not mean every current difficulty can be traced to a forgotten ancestor.

Human beings are far more complex than that.

But significant experiences that have never been acknowledged can continue to shape family relationships in subtle ways.

Constellations allows those realities to be recognised and given an appropriate place.

Divorce, Separation and Difficulty Letting Go

Sometimes a relationship has ended externally but remains very much alive internally.

This work can help when:

  • you remain emotionally attached to an ex

  • anger towards a previous partner dominates your present life

  • you continually compare new relationships with a former one

  • you cannot fully invest in another relationship

  • a former partner still seems psychologically present within a new relationship

  • children have become caught between separated parents

  • you feel compelled to choose sides after a family divorce

  • you are considering separating but want to understand the relationship first

  • a couple wants to recover after betrayal

  • separation has activated powerful abandonment or rejection wounds

Different approaches may be appropriate at different levels.

Family Constellations can address wider loyalties and the place of former partners within the system.

Couples Constellations can help two people explore whether and how their relationship can continue.

Rapid Core Healing can address the personal trauma of betrayal, abandonment or loss.

Pregnancy, Parenthood and Children

Having children can bring unresolved material to the surface remarkably quickly.

Someone may suddenly experience their own childhood very differently once they become a parent.

This work can help with:

  • fear of becoming a mother or father

  • anxiety about repeating your parents' behaviour

  • pregnancy bringing unresolved parental relationships to the surface

  • feeling unexpectedly overwhelmed after becoming a parent

  • difficulties bonding

  • conflict between partners after having children

  • loss of intimacy following parenthood

  • disagreements around parenting

  • different expectations about family roles

  • one parent carrying almost all of the responsibility

  • a partner feeling displaced by the child

  • family-of-origin expectations becoming intrusive after children arrive

Astrology can also help identify periods in which parenthood, family, responsibility and identity become especially prominent.

Money, Success and Family Loyalty

Money may appear completely unrelated to family relationships.

In practice, it often is not.

Family Constellations can be useful when somebody:

  • feels unable to surpass their parents financially

  • feels guilty about earning more than their family

  • sabotages success just as things begin going well

  • chronically undercharges

  • struggles to receive money

  • gives excessively

  • associates wealth with selfishness or disloyalty

  • repeatedly loses money

  • comes from a family with bankruptcy or financial collapse

  • experiences conflict around inheritance

  • feels uncomfortable moving into a different social or economic world from their family

Someone may consciously want success while another part of them experiences success as separation from the people they love.

Astrology may identify strong themes around security, money, responsibility, vocation or material life.

Constellations can help reveal the relationships underneath them.

Career, Vocation and Visibility

Work problems can also be surprisingly systemic.

This work may help when somebody:

  • repeatedly struggles with bosses or authority figures

  • is afraid to become visible professionally

  • abandons projects as they begin succeeding

  • remains in the career expected by their family

  • feels guilty pursuing work their parents do not understand

  • fears leadership

  • becomes responsible for everyone at work

  • repeatedly enters unequal business partnerships

  • experiences business partners like siblings or authority figures

  • feels unable to charge properly for their work

  • knows what they want to do but continually prevents themselves doing it

Sometimes a boss has unconsciously become Dad.

Sometimes a business partner has become an older sibling.

Sometimes visibility brings back an old experience of criticism or humiliation.

Family Constellations can reveal the systemic dynamic.

Rapid Core Healing can address the personal experience underneath it.

Astrology can be exceptionally helpful for questions of vocation.

But sometimes the person's problem is not:

"What should I do with my life?"

They already know.

The more useful question is:

"Why am I frightened of doing it?"

Moving Country, Ancestry and Finding Home

Migration can stir surprisingly deep questions about belonging.

Family Constellations can be useful for:

  • feeling disconnected from your homeland

  • guilt about leaving family behind

  • feeling caught between cultures

  • ancestral histories of migration or displacement

  • feeling inexplicably drawn to an ancestral country

  • continually searching for somewhere that feels like home

  • difficulty putting down roots

  • feeling as though belonging somewhere means betraying somewhere else

This is an area where astrology adds another interesting dimension.

I also use Asterian Astrology for location work, exploring how different places relate to an individual's chart.

The astrology and constellation are asking different questions.

Astrology may tell us something about where particular themes become stronger.

Constellations can explore why leaving, staying, home and belonging carry so much emotional meaning in the first place.

Major Life Transitions

Family patterns often become much more visible during major transitions.

People may benefit from this work around:

  • marriage

  • divorce

  • pregnancy

  • becoming a parent

  • leaving home

  • moving country

  • starting a business

  • changing career

  • retirement

  • death of a parent

  • inheritance

  • becoming responsible for ageing parents

  • entering or leaving an important relationship

Astrology is particularly valuable here because timing techniques can show when particular themes are becoming more prominent.

A transit or planetary period may tell us that relationships, family, responsibility or identity are becoming central.

The therapeutic work then gives us a way of engaging with what has surfaced.

Which Modality Do I Use?

There is considerable overlap, but broadly speaking:

Family Constellations

I use Family Constellations when the central issue involves:

  • parents

  • siblings

  • ancestry

  • family roles

  • repeated patterns across generations

  • belonging

  • exclusions

  • significant losses

  • adoption

  • unconscious family loyalties

  • family secrets

The central question is:

What is happening within the wider family system?

Couples Constellations

I use Couples Constellations when the primary difficulty exists between two partners, particularly around:

  • repetitive conflict

  • emotional distance

  • intimacy

  • communication

  • betrayal

  • resentment

  • sex

  • parenting

  • money

  • in-laws

  • boundaries

  • separation

  • deciding whether and how the relationship can continue

The central question is:

What is each person bringing into this relationship, and what is now happening between them?

This is also where I particularly enjoy incorporating Asterian relationship astrology, because the charts give me another way to understand each person's nature and the areas in which they strongly activate one another.

Rapid Core Healing

I use Rapid Core Healing when the primary issue involves the person's own emotional or traumatic experience, including:

  • childhood trauma

  • abandonment

  • attachment wounds

  • rejection

  • emotional neglect

  • shame

  • abusive experiences

  • inner child wounds

  • persistent triggers

  • difficult memories

  • somatic trauma responses

The central question becomes:

What happened to this person, and what part of that experience is still active now?

Frequently, more than one modality is appropriate.

A woman who repeatedly chooses emotionally unavailable men might first discover through Family Constellations that unavailable fathers appear throughout her family.

Rapid Core Healing might then address her own childhood experience of trying to earn her father's love.

If she is now in a relationship, Couples Constellations might show how this wound interacts with her partner's own history.

And Asterian Astrology may give us a further understanding of why this relationship activates both people so powerfully.

These are different layers of the same human story.

Astrology as a Map, Not a Sentence

Perhaps the most important principle in the way I use astrology is that I do not want somebody to feel imprisoned by their chart.

I do not believe a difficult astrological contact means that a couple is doomed.

Nor do I think a person should explain harmful behaviour with, "That's just my astrology."

Astrology is most useful when it increases consciousness.

I use Asterian Astrology as a map.

It can show us the terrain.

It can help us understand why particular relationships affect us so deeply, why certain experiences repeatedly arise and why one person touches something in us that another person does not.

But the purpose of seeing the map is not to surrender to it.

It is to travel more consciously.

For me, this is where astrology and therapeutic work fit together so naturally.

Asterian Astrology helps identify the pattern.

Family Constellations reveals the wider system.

Couples Constellations shows what is happening between two people.

Rapid Core Healing helps us work directly with what still hurts.

And sometimes the clearest indication that this deeper work may be useful is a very simple sentence:

"I understand why I do this, but I still can't seem to change it."

Insight matters enormously, but insight and change are not always the same process.

We can understand something intellectually while another part of us remains frightened, loyal to an old family role, attached to a former relationship or still responding to something that happened decades ago.

The astrology can help us see the pattern.

The deeper work gives us somewhere to go with what we see.
